Guillermo del Toro too busy for Star Wars

Jan 8 2013, 4:20am CST | by

Guillermo del Toro is too busy to direct 'Star Wars Episode VII'.

The 'Pan's Labyrinth' director has confirmed he was approached to tackle the new installment of the sci-fi franchise and though he was flattered by the offer, he didn't have the time to take on the project.

He told The Playlist: ''We got one phone call to my agent saying, 'Is Guillermo interested?' And basically I have so much stuff already of my own, and I'm pursuing stuff that I'm generating already...

''It was very flattering. It was just a phone call, it didn't go past that, it was very nice to be asked, but believe it or not, I'm busy enough.''

The 'Pacific Rim' filmmaker thinks 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' director Brad Bird would be the perfect choice to direct the movie.

He said: ''I think the fans deserve somebody that is just going to immerse themselves completely. As a geek, I would have loved to see Brad Bird take it.''

However, Brad has already ruled himself out of the running. In a Twitter chat recently, he was asked if he would direct the film next and said: ''Nope, a science fiction film. Not Star Wars. It's not Episode VII. (sic)''

When fans added he would be the perfect person to work on it, he said: ''Thanks. But the science fiction film I AM doing is gonna be good (sic)''.

The Strain: "For Services Rendered" Review

Aug 24 2014 10:04pm CDT | Source: ign

Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow. This first season of The Strain has been a herky-jerky viewing experience. The Guillermo del Toro-directed pilot had some spectacular imagery and creepy moments, but also featured the clunky dialogue and plot-convenient decision making by some characters that has dogged the series so far. That special attention to the horror aspect of the series has paid off for the most part, with the scares being earned rather than just cheap “boo!” moment ...

Aug 22 2014 11:28am CDT | Source: ign

Hideo Kojima has explained one of the P.T. demo's mysteries: the name of the fake developer initially said to be developing the game, 7780s Studio. In a Japanese language Konami video, Kojima says that the sequence "7780s" is another way of saying "Silent Hills." 7780 is the postcode of the Shizuoka region in Japan. The name translates roughly to "Quiet Hills," and the region's name has ...

El Rey Network has been doing some pretty cool things since it launched earlier this year (like recently signing a deal to broadcast 255 martial arts movies from the Shaw Brothers collection), but our favorite has to be their The Director's Chair series where Robert Rodriguez sits down some heavy hitter filmmaker friends for a lengthy interview. Most recently Guillermo del Toro sat in The Director's Chair and tonight (August 13, 9 PM EST) it will be ...

"Constantine" Could Blend With Del Toro Film?

Aug 11 2014 10:27am CDT | Source: Dark Horizons

Whilst Marvel has one grand linked universe, DC and Warner Bros. Pictures are keeping things a bit looser when it comes to adaptations of their comic titles. This is especially true of their TV properties with four DC Comics-inspired TV series screening this Fall, but only two of them ("Arrow," "The Flash") linked together and none of them tied to any of the upcoming films. Meanwhile filmmaker Guillermo del To ...
