Guillermo del Toro too busy for Star Wars

Jan 8 2013, 4:20am CST | by

Guillermo del Toro is too busy to direct 'Star Wars Episode VII'.

The 'Pan's Labyrinth' director has confirmed he was approached to tackle the new installment of the sci-fi franchise and though he was flattered by the offer, he didn't have the time to take on the project.

He told The Playlist: ''We got one phone call to my agent saying, 'Is Guillermo interested?' And basically I have so much stuff already of my own, and I'm pursuing stuff that I'm generating already...

''It was very flattering. It was just a phone call, it didn't go past that, it was very nice to be asked, but believe it or not, I'm busy enough.''

The 'Pacific Rim' filmmaker thinks 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' director Brad Bird would be the perfect choice to direct the movie.

He said: ''I think the fans deserve somebody that is just going to immerse themselves completely. As a geek, I would have loved to see Brad Bird take it.''

However, Brad has already ruled himself out of the running. In a Twitter chat recently, he was asked if he would direct the film next and said: ''Nope, a science fiction film. Not Star Wars. It's not Episode VII. (sic)''

When fans added he would be the perfect person to work on it, he said: ''Thanks. But the science fiction film I AM doing is gonna be good (sic)''.

Oct 21 2014 8:30am CDT | Source: slash film

When Warner Bros. announced a ten-film slate of DC Comics films last week, taking the studio all the way to 2020, you might have noticed one big omission. There was no Sandman, which we know Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been developing over much of 2014. But worry not (or continue to worry, if you’re afraid of the film), as Sandman creator Neil Gaiman says things are still moving along, and that we can expect another announcement. In short, Sandman isn’t part of the DC movie sl ...

"Sandman" Release Date Announced Soon?

Oct 18 2014 6:51pm CDT | Source: Dark Horizons

There was one obvious absence from the DC Comics movie line-up schedule announcement by Warner Bros. Pictures earlier this week. That film? The adaptation of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed "Sandman" comics. It turns out there's a good reason. Warners is not considering it a DC film as such according to Gaiman himself. The writer responded to the question on Tumblr, saying: "It's not a DC Comics film. It's a Vertigo film. That ...

Oct 16 2014 2:08pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

I'm a sap for a good love story. Who isn't?That's why The Book of Life, 20th Century Fox's beautiful and surreal new animation, was a must-see. Toss in a little Guillermo del Toro (producing) and a one-two punch of Channing Tatum and Zoe Saldana (voicing lead characters) and you've got me.Directed by the ultra talented Jorge Gutierrez - a Mexican animator, painter, writer and director - The Book of Life feels like one long, moving painti ...
