Guillermo del Toro too busy for Star Wars

Jan 8 2013, 4:20am CST | by

Guillermo del Toro is too busy to direct 'Star Wars Episode VII'.

The 'Pan's Labyrinth' director has confirmed he was approached to tackle the new installment of the sci-fi franchise and though he was flattered by the offer, he didn't have the time to take on the project.

He told The Playlist: ''We got one phone call to my agent saying, 'Is Guillermo interested?' And basically I have so much stuff already of my own, and I'm pursuing stuff that I'm generating already...

''It was very flattering. It was just a phone call, it didn't go past that, it was very nice to be asked, but believe it or not, I'm busy enough.''

The 'Pacific Rim' filmmaker thinks 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' director Brad Bird would be the perfect choice to direct the movie.

He said: ''I think the fans deserve somebody that is just going to immerse themselves completely. As a geek, I would have loved to see Brad Bird take it.''

However, Brad has already ruled himself out of the running. In a Twitter chat recently, he was asked if he would direct the film next and said: ''Nope, a science fiction film. Not Star Wars. It's not Episode VII. (sic)''

When fans added he would be the perfect person to work on it, he said: ''Thanks. But the science fiction film I AM doing is gonna be good (sic)''.

Hellboy 3: Epic Movie Sequels That Never Happened

Jul 21 2014 9:51am CDT | Source: movie pilot

Hellboy 3 isn't happening. It's sad, I know, but both actors and the director have confirmed that we won't get to see Big Red in action again. Hopefully a publicity stunt like the Aquaman deal but right now, it seems very, very unlikely. Anyway, we might as well get on with the post-mortem. What follows is Guillermo del Toro's idea for the movie. Hellboy was to finally come to terms with the fact that his destiny, his inevitable destiny, ...

Jul 18 2014 2:24pm CDT | Source: Slash Film

2014 Summer TCA Tour - Day 13
Over the past week, a great deal of talk has centered on two men: Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Formerly partners, the two split amicably a few months back to work on different projects. Before the split, however, the team behind Star Trek and Transformers were both attached to the Amazing Spider-Man and Universal Monsters franchises. Then Orci moved onto Star Trek 3, said he was off Spider-Man, and Kurtzman gained Chris Mor ...

‘The Strain’ Series Premiere Review

Jul 13 2014 10:00pm CDT | Source: Screen Rant

Premiere Of FX's "The Strain" - Arrivals
[This is a review of the The Strain premiere episode. There will be SPOILERS.] - When you’re plastering posters of a worm digging its way into an eyeball all over the place, you better earn that eerie imagery and Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain absolutely does. There’s a small handful of clichéd characters spitting out tacky dialogue like “This is bad, real bad,” but for the most part, the show’s first episode, ‘Night Zero,’ is brimming with solid scares, remarkably detailed ...

Ron Perlman Wants ‘Hellboy 3′ To Get Greenlit

Jun 17 2014 12:25pm CDT | Source: screen rant

Ron Perlman is a man born to act through prosthetics. In point of fact, he’s been doing so for years, donning make-up in projects ranging from 1987′s Beauty and the Beast TV series to 1996′s The Island of Dr. Moreau, to say nothing of his debut role in 1981′s Paleolithic drama Quest for Fire. But it’s his work in Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army - Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Mike Mignola’s celebrated comic books – that p ...

Apple Store Soho Presents Meet The Filmmakers: Joel Coen And Ethan Coen, "Inside Llewyn Davis"
It’s been nearly two years since the release of Lincoln, but Steven Spielberg has already firmed up his next two projects, which will essentially shoot back-to-back.  We previously reported that Spielberg had signed on to helm an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book The BFG with production poised to begin in early 2015, but it was noted that the filmmaker was looking to possibly shoot a smaller-scale film first.  That project firmed up as an untitled Cold War thriller that w ...
