Anne Hathaway's Les Miserables determination

Dec 27 2012, 4:24am CST | by

Anne Hathaway was determined to get a part in 'Les Miserables'.

The 30-year-old actress had ''fire in her belly'' to convince director Tom Hooper and his production team that she was perfect for the big screen adaptation of the hit musical even though they thought she wasn't in the right age range for any of the female roles.

She said: ''I was told they weren't sure I was young enough for some of the other parts but maybe I wasn't young enough for Fantine. Do you ever have those moments when the fire in your belly just consumes you? I said that I needed to get in a room and we would figure this out. So I got my audition and just left it all on the floor; gave it everything.''

Anne admits she was terrified while filming her big 'I Dreamed a Dream' musical solo as troubled prostitute Fantine, but her worry soon turned to anger when she saw which version they had included in the official film trailer while watching it with her husband Adam Shulman.

When asked how many takes they had done, she explained: ''Quite a few, but there was only one that really mattered; the angry one. Funnily enough, when I watched the trailer with my husband, he looked at me with tears in his eyes and I had rage in mine. Well, maybe more fear.

''They took a rehearsal version and put it in the trailer. I was so confused because Tom and I had agreed which take we would use and that wasn't it. I called Tom and he investigated and the marketing guys said, 'The version for the movie was a bit too raw for the trailer, but your version will be in the film.' So I felt better... They made the right choice but that initial moment was a big shock. I was just being weird about it.''

Chris Rock and Julia Louis-Dreyfus Turned Down the Offer to Host This Year’s Oscars

Oct 22 2014 3:49pm CDT | Source: Collider

It was announced last week that the excellent Neil Patrick Harris will be hosting this coming February's Oscar ceremony, but it turns out that NPH wasn’t the Academy’s first choice.  THR reports that producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron—who have produced the last two ceremonies in a row—first “begged” Ellen Degeneres to return as Oscar for this year’s ceremony.  She firmly declined the offer, and then they next approached Chris Rock, who hosted in 2005.  He turned down the offer as we ...

Oct 2 2014 3:08pm CDT | Source: Collider

The summer movie season is behind us, and there is a lot to look forward to in the closing months of 2014.  As always there’s plenty of adult dramas to dig through, but the year’s final releases are an eclectic bunch ranging from massive-scale sci-fi films to psychedelic period romps, and there are more than a couple of new releases from some of the best filmmakers working today.  It’s an embarrassment of riches, but Matt, Adam, Perri, and Evan have each pored over the release calenda ...

‘Interstellar’ Opening Three Days Early in IMAX

Sep 30 2014 6:45pm CDT | Source: slash film

The only real way to see a Christopher Nolan movie is in IMAX. The filmmaker specifically makes his films for the large screen format, and with each subsequent movie he innovates in multiple ways. For his latest film, Interstellar, Nolan put IMAX cameras on planes to capture new footage. In the coming weeks, we’ll surely hear more about his IMAX use. Film projection in IMAX is important to him, too, and the flagship location, the TCL Chinese Theater IMAX, is specifically putting in a film pr ...

What We Learned (and Didn't Learn) from the New 'Interstellar' TV Spots

Sep 29 2014 5:12pm CDT | Source: yahoo

The broad outlines of the plot are clearer: The Earth is experiencing a life-ending ecological disaster and an intrepid group of astronauts (including Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway) are sent on a last-ditch mission to find a new haven for humanity.  We definitely see more of the walking-Tetris-block contraption (above) that accompanies McConaughey as he surveys the alien planet — it seems to be a fusion of the self-stabilizing walking “dog” currently under development by the Pe ...

‘Interstellar’ TV Spots Serve Up More Footage, More Story Details

Sep 29 2014 3:00pm CDT | Source: Slash Film

In addition to being one of the most highly-anticipated movies of late 2014, Interstellar is also one of the most mysterious. The Christopher Nolan-directed sci-fi adventure hasn’t played any festivals or otherwise allowed for any early reviews, and even the marketing campaign has been careful not to give away too much. And naturally, all of that secrecy just makes us more curious about the movie. For now, we’ll take what we can get. Today, tha ...
