JJ Abrams: Star Trek Into Darkness is positive

Dec 27 2012, 4:24am CST | by

J.J. Abrams says 'Star Trek Into Darkness' will make people feel ''happier''.

The director admitted the movie explores some ''darkness'' but he never wants to make audiences leave the cinema feeling unhappy, suggesting the film will have a positive ending.

He said: ''I don't like going to the movies to feel bad.

''I don't like going to the movies to feel depressed and feel diminished. The reason you go to the movies is to feel bigger and stronger and happier.

''So this is a movie that they certainly go 'Into Darkness', but I would be the wrong director if it was about characters staying there.

''This is very much a movie about hope, about love, about romance, and about facing something that is truly terrifying and finding a way through the connection of your family and surviving and being stronger afterwards.''

The filmmaker also insisted that people who haven't seen his first film in the space adventure series will not be at a disadvantage if they watch the new movie.

He added to IO9: ''This movie doesn't require you have seen the first movie.''

'Star Trek Into Darkness' is due to be released on May 17, 2013.

Sep 12 2014 11:27am CDT | Source: Screen Rant

When it comes to a sprawling space opera franchise like Star Wars, the spacecraft that the characters use to travel in are practically characters in their own right. Sep 11 2014 12:36pm CDT | Source: First Showing

Production has resumed on Star Wars: Episode VII, but after some big leaks hit the web before the project went on hiatus for a few weeks, it seems the lid is even tighter on mystery box of the sci-fi sequel from director J.J. Abrams. So since we don't have any new stuff about Episode VII (besides some aerial photos of the Millennium Falcon and X-Wing making the rounds), it's never too early to start talki ...

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Set Pics Reveal Life-Sized Millenium Falcon and X-Wing Ships

Sep 10 2014 10:38am CDT | Source: Collider

I'm almost shocked that there isn't restricted air space around the Star Wars: Episode VII set, such is the intensity of director J.J. Abrams' desire for secrecy.  But even Abrams doesn't have that kind of clout, and so now we have some overhead pics that got snagged by a local flying school.  And they detail what look to be like life-size models of the Millenium Falcon and a (tarp covered) X-Wing fighter. So, just in case you were in doubt about ...

‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ Resumes Filming; Harrison Ford Back to Work

Aug 29 2014 8:45am CDT | Source: Screen Rant

Harrison Ford fractured his leg on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII earlier this year, which prompted many to be concerned about the 72-year old actor’s health – and, of course, left the legions of Star Wars fans to wonder what effect this could have on the filming of co-writer/director J.J. Abrams’ beginning chapter in the franchise’s next live-action movie trilogy. Two months have passed since then and, as was originally predicted, Ford is now back in the saddle – as Episode VII has re-c ...

POTD: ‘Star Wars Episode VII’ Battery Of John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and J.J. Abrams Plus a Cameo

Aug 19 2014 11:30am CDT | Source: Slash Film

What you’ve got to love about Twitter are the windows it opens. The way a single tweet can just set your imagination on fire with possibility. Monday night, that happened twice. First as a joke, and then as a photo. The photo featured Star Wars Episode VII director J.J. Abrams with his two co-stars, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley. It made you dream about the conversations being held between these three. Then, in the background, was someone else. Another fa ...
