Samuel L. Jackson slams M. Night Shyamalan

Dec 21 2012, 12:52pm CST | by

Samuel L. Jackson has slammed his 'Unbreakable' director M. Night Shyamalan.

The 64-year-old actor believes the filmmaker hasn't produced a good movie since their 2000 thriller collaboration, and admitted he is unsure what happened to the proposed sequels to the film.

He told the Huffington Post: ''There was supposed to be three. I don't know [what happened to the sequels].

''You'll have to ask the brilliant director who wrote it and didn't do the rest of them. I mean, he hasn't made a really good movie since then.''

'Unbreakable' was the director's first work after the smash success of 'The Sixth Sense', and Samuel believes the movie's commercial failure was similar to that experienced by Quentin Tarantino after he followed blockbuster 'Pulp fiction' with the less-popular 'Jackie Brown'.

He added: ''He suffered from what happened to Quentin when he made 'Jackie Brown'. He didn't make 'Pulp Fiction 2', he made 'Jackie Brown' - which is a wonderful f**king movie.

'''Unbreakable' also didn't have the numbers of 'I see dead people'. That was a problem for him... for his ego and the studio, also.''

Despite his belief there would be a market for a second 'Unbreakable' film, the 'Django Unchained' actor doesn't believe Shyamalan would want to make it.

He said: ''Everybody would be waiting for it, yeah. It would be crazy for it. It would trend through the roof now on Twitter. But Quentin makes movies that Quentin wants to see. I don't think M. Night makes movies for the same reason.

''[With Shyamalan] there's, you know, 'I'm smarter than everybody coming to watch my movie'. Quentin's not that. He's just, 'I want you to love my movie. I want you to love it and enjoy it because this is f**king cool'.''

When Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron was filming in London last summer, I got to visit the set along with a few other reporters.   Like most Marvel set visits, they let us talk to the entire cast and watch filming.  While the production was guarded about what they were willing to tell us, we learned a ton of cool secrets behind what’s bound to be one of the biggest films of 2015.  In The Ave ...

In 2007, Eddie Murphy earned an Oscar nomination for his dramatic turn in Dreamgirls. But now it looks like he’s ready to get serious again. Murphy is reportedly on board for Cook, directe ...

So far, info on the cast for Quentin Tarantino‘s The Hateful Eight has been little more than speculation. While we have a good idea that actors such as Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, and Walton Goggins will have roles in the film, thanks in part to their participation in the live-read of the script, nothing has been officially revealed. Now for The Hateful Eight Jennifer Jason Leigh is set as the first official cast member. She’ll play Daisy Domergue, a woman ...

JK Rowling “Tweaking” ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ Screenplay

Oct 6 2014 3:00pm CDT | Source: slash film

Every day, conversations in the film community gravitate to how DC, Marvel and Lucasfilm are working on huge, interconnected universes on the big screen. Innumerable other franchises are emulating this blueprint too, whether it be the Universal Monsters or Ghostbusters. But a similar franchise largely kept out of the conversation is Harry Potter. In the next decade, we’re going to get at least three new films in Potter’s universe. The spin-off series, set years before Harry’s stor ...

Kite Review

Oct 3 2014 1:56pm CDT | Source: ign

Samuel L. Jackson starring in a live-action version of a cult girl-sassin anime may look great on paper and sound awesome as a pitch, but the result here - with Kite (headed to VOD and theaters on October 10th) - is an ugly, boring trudge of a movie. As it turns out, when you redo anime with actual actors you draw express attention to the fact that the story is often obtuse and dull - and is only palatable via the vessel of the style an ...
