Samuel L. Jackson slams M. Night Shyamalan

Dec 21 2012, 12:52pm CST | by

Samuel L. Jackson has slammed his 'Unbreakable' director M. Night Shyamalan.

The 64-year-old actor believes the filmmaker hasn't produced a good movie since their 2000 thriller collaboration, and admitted he is unsure what happened to the proposed sequels to the film.

He told the Huffington Post: ''There was supposed to be three. I don't know [what happened to the sequels].

''You'll have to ask the brilliant director who wrote it and didn't do the rest of them. I mean, he hasn't made a really good movie since then.''

'Unbreakable' was the director's first work after the smash success of 'The Sixth Sense', and Samuel believes the movie's commercial failure was similar to that experienced by Quentin Tarantino after he followed blockbuster 'Pulp fiction' with the less-popular 'Jackie Brown'.

He added: ''He suffered from what happened to Quentin when he made 'Jackie Brown'. He didn't make 'Pulp Fiction 2', he made 'Jackie Brown' - which is a wonderful f**king movie.

'''Unbreakable' also didn't have the numbers of 'I see dead people'. That was a problem for him... for his ego and the studio, also.''

Despite his belief there would be a market for a second 'Unbreakable' film, the 'Django Unchained' actor doesn't believe Shyamalan would want to make it.

He said: ''Everybody would be waiting for it, yeah. It would be crazy for it. It would trend through the roof now on Twitter. But Quentin makes movies that Quentin wants to see. I don't think M. Night makes movies for the same reason.

''[With Shyamalan] there's, you know, 'I'm smarter than everybody coming to watch my movie'. Quentin's not that. He's just, 'I want you to love my movie. I want you to love it and enjoy it because this is f**king cool'.''

It’s no secret that when an actor signs on to star in a Marvel Studios film, his or her contract also contains options to appear in X number of films for the studio.  The number varies from actor to actor (Samuel L. The Problem with Superhero Sagas: Why Treating Movies Like Television Is a Bad Idea

Aug 9 2014 3:13pm CDT | Source: Collider

When Marvel Studios started producing its own films with Iron Man in 2008, many in the industry and the public at large were quite sure that they would fail.  Headlines famously accused the comic book company of delving into its “second-tier superheroes” in order to compete with the likes of Batman and Spider-Man at the box office, and few could have predicted just how successful the studio's new venture would be—or that Iron Man was only the beginning.  The tag at the end ...

Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons Talk KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, Matthew Vaughn, Comics vs. Film, WATCHMEN, Future Projects, and More

Aug 8 2014 3:59pm CDT | Source: Collider

One of my most anticipated movies is director Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service.  The story is based on the comic by written by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons about a veteran secret agent (Colin Firth) who takes a teen delinquent (Taron Egerton) from the streets of London, and brings him into a British spy school that molds its students into suave 007-types.  As a huge fan of what Vaughn did with X-Men: First Class and how awesome the first trailer looks, I ca ...
