Dan Stevens joins WikiLeaks film

Dec 21 2012, 4:41am CST | by

Dan Stevens has been cast in the WikiLeaks film.

The 'Downton Abbey' star - known for playing handsome heir Matthew Crawley in the Emmy Award-winning TV drama - has landed a part in Bill Condon's untitled upcoming biopic about controversial WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Benedict Cumberbatch has already been cast as disgraced journalist Assange, and Variety is now reporting Dan will play a hacker close to Daniel Domscheit-Berg, one of the company's most prominent spokesmen.

It was recently announced 'Inglourious Basterds' actor Daniel Bruhl would star as Domscheit-Berg after James McAvoy was forced to drop out due to his prior commitments to 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'.

Swedish starlet Alicia Vikander ('Anna Karenina') rounds out the cast.

British-born Dan moved to New York this summer to pursue a Hollywood career after landing a part in Broadway play 'The Heiress', and is not expected to appear in the fourth series of 'Downton'.

He is also set to feature in upcoming vampire romantic comedy 'Vamps' alongside Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter.

The WikiLeaks film - speculatively titled 'The Man Who Sold the World' - will chronicle the ups and downs of Assange, who caused embarrassment to world governments by leaking diplomatic cables around the world after launching the website in 2006.

Production begins early next year.

Could We Get a Robin Hood Cinematic Universe, Too?

Oct 7 2014 5:57pm CDT | Source: movie pilot

Following the model that Marvel created with their The Avengers cinematic universe, Sony now wants to create a Robin Hood shared universe. This isn't the first we've heard of a studio attempting to replicate the success that Marvel has had. Warner Bros. is currently working on making their DC properties one cohesive universe and Fox is expanding upon the X-Men universe. I guess this is just what all ...

See ‘The Guest’ Trailer From Jason Eisener; Score the Soundtrack for Free This Weekend

Sep 26 2014 1:30pm CDT | Source: slash film

The Guest opened in a handful of theaters last weekend, and to celebrate that Hobo With a Shotgun director Jason Eisener cut together a really spectacular short trailer for the film. It’s a tight blast of action, color and music that perfectly captures the vibe of the film, in which Dan Stevens plays a very capable and very violent man acting on grim intentions. We didn’t post that trailer last week (blame the distraction of Fantas ...

Fantastic Fest Review: 'The Guest' is Cool & Kick Ass, As It Should Be

Sep 23 2014 3:59pm CDT | Source: First Showing

Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett are Fantastic Fest staples thanks to their surprise smash You're Next in 2011. The movie matched a cool, riotous attitude with a home invasion sub-genre that had been poking its head at horror audiences for years. Now they've again brought a cool, riotous attitude in droves. The Guest is more action than horror, but the edge is still there. Aided by Wingard's enormous talent for mood, an '80s vibe ...

Sep 21 2014 12:53am CDT | Source: comingsoon

A Walk Among the Tombstones Review: Liam Neeson Redefines Justice

Sep 19 2014 9:00am CDT | Source: movie fanatic

Liam Neeson has been riding a wave of middle-career action hero success since Taken became a global phenomenon. He’s back in an actioner of sorts with A Walk Among the Tombstones. The thing with this film is that Neeson’s private detective character has his fair share of action scenes, but he does so much more with his mind than with his muscle. Neeson plays Matt Scudder, the character made famous in the book ...

‘A Walk Among the Tombstones’ Review

Sep 19 2014 8:00am CDT | Source: Screen Rant

A Walk Among the Tombstones is your standard, traditional Noir flick; in other words, it feels pretty dated. In A Walk Among the Tombstones, ex-cop turned unlicensed investigator Matt Scudder (Liam Neeson) is hired by drug trafficker Kenny Kristo (Dan Stevens) to investigate the kidnapping of his wife. Reluctantly, Scudder takes the case – but what he learns quickly turns a simple kidnapping into a cat-and-mouse game with ...
