Cate Blanchett shocked at The Hobbit return

Dec 13 2012, 8:54am CST | by

Cate Blanchett didn't expect to appear in 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey'.

The actress reprised her role as Galadriel from Sir Peter Jackson's award-winning 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy in the prequel, despite her character not appearing in J.R.R. Tolkien's novel on which the film is based, so she was pleasantly surprised when she was asked back.

Speaking at the film's Royal UK premiere at the Odeon cinema in London's Leicester Square on Wednesday night (12.12.12), she said: ''Galadriel's only glancingly mentioned in 'The Hobbit' so I had no expectation of being in the film. I was simply excited to see it as an audience member.''

The glamorous 43-year-old star relished the opportunity to reunite with cast and crew members from the original films when she returned to the New Zealand set where both 'Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' were filmed.

She added: ''I thought my job was done a decade ago. I was absolutely thrilled to come back for a week and visit everyone again.''

The premiere was attended by Prince William and marked the 65th royal film screening in aid of the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund (CTBF), which supports industry workers in times of hardship.

The prince greeted the film's cast and crew and was presented with a 'Hobbit' goodie bag for his wife Duchess Catherine, who was unable to attend due to a recurring bout of hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness, brought on by her recently announced pregnancy.

Other stars from the film who walked a special green carpet included Martin Freeman, Sir Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis as well as director Peter Jackson.

Actor Idris Elba Makes Short Film Directorial Debut For Pepsi MAX 'Beat's of the Beautiful Game'
As Point of Geeks reports, there is a new film genre being made at Disney Studios. Disney has several top-tier licenses at their disposal, including Star Wars and Marvel Studios, but they haven't forgotten that their own brand is valuable as well. The studio had an enormous hit on their hands with Maleficent earlier this year. The modern reworking of the classic Sleeping Beauty tale has made over $215 million dollars domestically and con ...

Review: How to Train Your Dragon 2

Jun 13 2014 9:39am CDT | Source: Dark Horizons

DreamWorks' "How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular" North American Tour Preview
It's a rare sequel - animated or otherwise - that expands the story of its predecessor without rehashing it, and an even rarer family-oriented film that manages to be fun and mature without being condescending to its audience. How to Train Your Dragon 2 does both. Set five years after the first movie, a clunky prologue sequence reveals our protagonist Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) has grown from an awkward teen into a slightly less awkward yo ...

Cate Blanchett And Tang Wei Attend Commercial Activity In Shanghai
How to Train Your Dragon is, no question, a beloved animated film. The heart and soul of the film was the touching relationship between Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and the dragon Toothless. In How to Train Your Dragon 2, everyone on Hiccup’s island of Berk has a dragon and it is because of Hiccup and his ability to open their eyes to see a former foe as friend. With that combative relationship between humans and dragons now compa ...

Box Office Predictions: 'Dragon 2' and '22' Open Huge

Jun 12 2014 3:50pm CDT | Source: screen crave

Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Mill
Studios often decide against opening two franchises against each other, but this weekend should see two films soar at the box office. But it’s partly because they don’t have as much crossover as — say — two superhero movies. Both How to Train Your Dragon 2 and 22 Jump Street should be huge this weekend. And if Dragon has an edge, it’s only because no one’s thought to release an animated movie for kids t ...
